I’ve been working on a big documentary project.\u00c2\u00a0 It has been an all-consuming affair.<\/p>\n
Last night, when I finally decided that 11 hours was enough, I stopped by the store on the way “home” (I am staying with a friend).\u00c2\u00a0 I wanted to pick up some chunks of pork.<\/p>\n
My nearby HEB supermarke’s butcher has begun an interesting bit of marketing.\u00c2\u00a0 They take all the chunks left over after trimming and package them up.\u00c2\u00a0 They usually go for $1.69 a pound or something like that.\u00c2\u00a0 You can grill them or stew them or whatever.<\/p>\n
I wanted brown and roast some.\u00c2\u00a0 I was up for some crusty, juicy meat.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 There was none.<\/p>\n
I was tired and got a bit grouchy when my mission failed.\u00c2\u00a0 So, I guess I was noticing little things more than usual.\u00c2\u00a0 I had no cart.\u00c2\u00a0 Two clueless and\/or totally inconsiderate people had their carts up together and were chatting away, all but completely blocking the way.\u00c2\u00a0 Another women with a cart filled the void.\u00c2\u00a0 I pulled short and waited for her to pass.\u00c2\u00a0 She stopped.\u00c2\u00a0 She asked an employee where the bathrooms were, got her answer<\/a> and was off like a shot to the bathroom, leaving her cart behind.\u00c2\u00a0 The employee and I looked at each other in disbelief and cleared the cart out of the way.<\/p>\n Damn, I was thinking.\u00c2\u00a0 This place seems crowded tonight.\u00c2\u00a0 I continued to bump and spin and reach around people pushing in front of me or blocking the way. \u00c2\u00a0 I was weary of it all.<\/p>\n Why, I asked myself, are there so damn many people here?<\/p>\n I kid you not, it took awhile to sink in.<\/p>\n Ya think it had something to do with Thanksgiving?\u00c2\u00a0 I’d completely forgotten it was upon us, despite the inordinate amount of turkeys on display.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I’ve been working on a big documentary project.\u00c2\u00a0 It has been an all-consuming affair.
